Child-Centered Philosophy

"I believe in a child-centered philosophy of education. In my view, the needs of the child come first. What is most important to me is the happiness of a child. A happy child will approach their reading with a more positive attitude. Becoming a solid reader can contribute significantly to a child’s or adolescent’s overall happiness. Reading builds confidence and opens doors for the rest of their lives.

Listening to a child or adolescent read his or her first word, first sentence, first paragraph, first poem or first book is one of the most exhilarating feelings I've ever experienced. Teaching children how to read is my passion, and each student's success is my reward. Hearing a student proclaim ”I’m reading! I’m reading!” evokes a strong emotional feeling in me because of the magnitude of this accomplishment. When students are ready to read to their parents, siblings, and at school, they have reached another major milestone, signifying their hard work and belief in themselves."

"Amy gave us our family back. Before there was low self-confidence and stress over school. Since then, I have seen a big change in my children and I am so happy Amy has brought out the best in them!"

"... gained so much confidence..."

I have gained so much confidence and self esteem from learning how to read! I don't know what I'd do without Ms. Amy in my life!

"My son is in college..."

I know he would not be in college without Amy. She taught my intelligent boy to read—and inspired him.

"... and then I could see the light."
I have no idea what the story would have been had Amy not come into our lives. Very slowly I could see it, the changing from a child of low self-esteem and low self-confidence... and then I could see the light. What Amy was doing day after day, year after year, she was chipping away at the granite.

It didn't take her long to figure out what he needed. She knew right away what it was.
People come into your life for a reason. Because of Amy the course of his life... this transformation happened when we met her.

She taught my son how to work harder and through working hard what he could accomplish.

She came into our family with so much compassion and understanding. She taught me how to be an advocate for my son. She taught my son how to be an advocate for himself, and she was an advocate for him with all his teachers.

When Amy left us and moved back to New Orleans he was ready. He practiced things he learned from her. He still does.

Amy saved my son's life in a way because of his struggles and what she did. There are no words. These are the cold hard facts—what she brought out in our son: success, confidence and self-esteem. More than that though, Amy brought so much to our lives in so many ways.
